By the time the golfers get to the last, usually a few people have an idea of who the winners will be. But none of it is final until the scorecards are verified. […]

Radford track and field sprinting coach Sid Patton tells a good story about one of the Rams, senior Michael Edwards. Edwards broke the OIA championship meet’s 300 hurdles record Saturday with a time of 39.02 seconds in a winning performance. But, Edwards’ encouraging speech to his team recently is just as impressive, and it underscores what effort and perseverance can do for anyone who tries. “He told the team the other night, ‘Hey, I was just an average guy when […]

By Paul Honda on April 23, 2019

Down South, some folks remedy a case of muscle cramps by drinking pickle juice. Pickle juice, the sour, tart and salty stuff that most people toss out when the jar is empty of actual pickles. It works to varying degrees, though some will say that it is not a permanent, effective treatment, not like magnesium — from dark green, leafy vegetables and nuts. Chicago Cubs pitcher Jason Hammel dealt with cramping issues in 2016 by following doctor’s orders. He ate […]

Underdog Kalaheo hoping to peak in OIA final vs. Moanalua

By Paul Honda on April 22, 2019

There might be all sorts of reasons to believe Moanalua is destined to win the OIA boys volleyball championship for the seventh time in eight seasons. What Moanalua (12-1) hasn’t seen in quite some time, however, is a 1-2 punch that Kalaheo brings. The Mustangs (12-1) were dominant against Castle in the other […]
