Saint Louis hires Dan Hale as boys basketball coach

Dan Hale is the new boys basketball coach at Saint Louis, replacing Sol Batoon, the school’s athletic department announced Monday. Hale has been coaching high school basketball for more than 25 years, including at Punahou from 2004 to 2007. Chenoa Frederick continues to build up her resume in Big Island Interscholastic Association track and field. The Kamehameha-Hawaii junior won four individual events at the BIIF championships Saturday and placed second in another. Frederick won the 100-meter dash (12.73 seconds, with a qualifying time of 12.57), high jump (5 feet, 1 inch), long jump (16-10.50) and triple jump (38.4.25), and she was the runner-up in the 200 (26.16). With the Wally Yonamine Foundation/HHSAA State Baseball Championships just nine days away, two Kamehameha schools are making a big charge up the Honolulu Star-Advertiser Baseball Top 10. Hawaii’s Tiare Ikei won the 53-kilogram (116-pound) gold medal at the 2019 U.S. Open Senior Women’s Championship in Las Vegas on Friday. It was Ikei’s first senior-level national tournament. She went undefeated with two tech falls and a pin en route to not only the gold, but also the honor of outstanding women’s wrestler of the tournament.
