HHSAA’s HIADA proposal would change seeding criteria

A huge change will be in the offing if the Hawaii High School Athletic Directors Association adopts a proposal submitted by the HHSAA that would drastically change the seeding criteria that has been used through the years for state tournaments in volleyball, basketball, soccer, softball and baseball. OIA has three proposals to tweak state football format at HIADA

There are three proposals on the agenda for next week’s Hawaii Interscholastic Athletic Directors Association meeting on Kauai that would tweak the state football format. All three were submitted by the OIA. Similar to soccer at the world level, the head referee in Hawaii uses a watch to determine the timing of the match. There has been talk of adding instant replay for the Hawaii high school state football tournament for a few years now. ‘Iolani pitcher Aleia Agbayani was chosen as Gatorade Hawaii Softball Player of the Year, the Gatorade Company announced Thursday. The award recognizes outstanding athletic excellence, high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character on and off the field. The 5-foot-5 senior pitcher, first baseman and outfielder led the Raiders to a 19-5 record and the Division I state championship. Konawaena declares for Division I football in BIIF

Konawaena is moving up to Division I in BIIF football, according to a league source close to the situation. The news was first reported by West Hawaii Today’s J.R. De Groote. The decision was finalized at the league’s monthly meeting Wednesday. With the Wildcats moving up, there will be six teams in the D-I race this fall.
