HPU, Saint Louis alum Rico Garcia to make MLB debut

Right-handed pitcher Rico Garcia, a Saint Louis School alumnus who was drafted in 2016 after his senior season at Hawaii Pacific by the Colorado Rockies, is being called up to the big leagues, according to a source. Garcia is expected to pitch Tuesday against Rick Porcello and the Boston Red Sox at Coors Field. Freshman quarterback John-Keawe Sagapolutele passed for 217 yards and two TDs and running back Vincent Terrell scores two TDs in Punahou’s 44-13 win at No. 8 Kapolei. Punahou improved to 4-0 overall (3-0 ILH Open Division). Alaka‘i Gilman and Jonah Henry return interceptions for touchdowns to spark Punahou’s defense, which had not allowed a touchdown all season until Kapolei’s Jayven Reyes scored with 2:26 to go in the second quarter.
