Saint Louis quarterback Jayden de Laura, who guided the Crusaders to a 31-19 win over Bishop Gorman on Friday at Aloha Stadium, has been named a 2020 Polynesian Bowl All-Star. Kahuku football players got to hear inspiring words from University of Utah head coach Kyle Wittingham and former Utes head coach Ron McBride on Wednesday. Moanalua coaches Savaii Eselu, Alan Cabanting and Blossom Caballero are in Las Vegas with their respective Na Menehune football, girls volleyball and cheerleading squads. The football team plays Sierra Vista in Spring Valley, Nev., a suburb of Las Vegas, on Friday. The volleyball team will play one match each against three Nevada schools on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Nick Herbig, Koali Nishigaya named Aloha Classic MVP’s

Saint Louis linebacker Nick Herbig and receiver Koali Nishigaya were named most valuable players of the Aloha Football Classic. The duo was presented with awards by game organizer Rich Miano prior to practice on Tuesday. Herbig scored on defense after recovering a fumble he helped cause and Nishigaya caught 10 passes for 103 yards and a touchdown in a 31-19 win over Bishop Gorman on Friday at Aloha Stadium.

In 1989, Wendell Look was a defensive line coach at his alma mater, ‘Iolani. He was also the defensive coordinator, coaching the likes of Rod York, who went on to play for Hawaii before embracing a new life as a coach at Mililani. Look became ‘Iolani’s head coach in ’91. Kapolei’s De’Zhaun Stribling tied a career high with 178 receiving yards in a win over Downey (Calif.) on Friday and took over as the leader on Oahu in receiving yards through Week 5. Stribling has played in five games and took the lead over Campbell’s Titus Mokiao-Atimalala despite being held without a catch against Saint Louis.
