No. 10 Leilehua finds the right combo on offense to beat No. 7 Damien

By Jason Kaneshiro on September 14, 2019

Leilehua head coach Mark Kurisu took a deep breath, found a seat on the bench and nodded toward former Mules quarterback Andrew Manley. “You should be interviewing Coach Drew,” an understandably drained Kurisu said after the 10th-ranked Mules’ 34-26 win over No. 7 Damien on Friday night. Kurisu’s deference to the Mules’ offensive coordinator was rooted in a performance in which senior quarterback Kekoa Turangan threw for three touchdowns and junior receiver Kalei Akagi, who began the season as the […]

Moanalua’s offense proved too powerful in the first half, led by quarterback RJ Javar’s 267 total yards and four touchdowns (two rushing, two passing). After his first pass attempt was picked off, Javar went on a streak of 14 […]

Castle shows versatility on offense in win over Radford

By Noelle Kakimoto on September 14, 2019

In what could have been Radford’s first win of the season on Homecoming night, the Castle Knights’ offensive range shut the Rams out of the celebration as they secured a 20-6 victory. The journey toward victory was like a slow burn as the Knights scored the game’s first points with only a minute left in the first quarter. Senior kicker Cheydon Costa nailed a 28-yard field goal to end a six minute-long drive where three different receivers caught passes and […]

Campbell’s Jonan Aina-Chaves and Blaine Hipa provide much-needed balance on offense

By Nick Abramo on September 14, 2019

Coaches talk about being balanced on offense all the time. It doesn’t happen as much as they want it to, but there was some fantastic symmetry for the fifth-ranked Campbell Sabers on Friday night in a 45-13 sledgehammering of westside rival Kapolei. Led by Jonan Aina-Chaves and the offensive line, Campbell chewed up 225 rushing yards. At the quarterback spot, Blaine Hipa sprayed the ball liberally to five receivers for 206 yards and five touchdown passes. That’s the balance coaches […]
