By Paul Honda on September 19, 2019

Rod York is a realist. He is also an optimist. The Mililani football coach is on a quest to play the best teams he can find. The Braves won last year’s matchup, 52-14, in a game that Coach Jason Negro considered close until the late going. The 2019 Trojans don’t have Dillon Gabriel, who was the Star-Advertiser offensive player of the year, but […]

HAWAII GROWN: Timpview game turns into a Kahuku reunion

By Billy Hull on September 18, 2019

When Kahuku traveled to Utah to play Timpview two weeks ago, the game was moved from Friday to Saturday to better accommodate such a high demand for tickets. For Boise State junior Kekaula Kaniho, it worked out perfectly. The Broncos had a Friday night home game and Kaniho had four tackles and a pass breakup in a 14-7 win over Marshall. That left a full day Saturday to make the six-hour drive to Utah. Utah senior defensive end Bradlee Anae […]

By Nick Abramo on September 17, 2019

Alexis DeBina-Bautista and Emily Bryce stepped up in a big way for No. 5 Moanalua in a key 25-15, 27-26, 25-18 OIA East girls volleyball sweep of Kalaheo on Tuesday night. On their home court and without leader Tayli Ikenaga — who tweaked her foot in the second set and left the match after seven kills — Na Menehune wobbled and almost lost that second set. Instead, they fought back to grab it on the deciding 27th point. Then in […]
