UCLA commit Nathaniel Jones battles back from ACL injury for St. John Bosco

By Paul Honda on September 22, 2019

They call him the Sand Beast for a reason. Nathaniel Jones runs the sand relentlessly. He ran them before UCLA offered him a scholarship last year as a sophomore. He runs them continuously when he can now. One year after tearing an ACL — during St. John Bosco’s first game of 2019 — Jones shows no ill effects. The 5-foot-11, 205-pound junior running back had a team-high 10 carries for 33 yards in a 42-10 win over Mililani on Saturday. […]

VIDEO: Mililani coach Rod York, LB Bam Amina after loss to St. John Bosco

By Paul Honda on September 22, 2019

It was a David-versus-Goliath scenario for the Mililani Trojans, and even with a 42-10 loss to No. 2 ranked St. John Bosco, there’s a silver lining. Mililani coach Rod York and linebacker Bam Amina chatted with Hawaii Prep World after the loss. The Trojans stood their ground in the trenches, allowing just 118 rushing yards on 30 carries by the powerful Braves.

VIDEO: St. John Bosco QB DJ Uiagalelei, Coach Jason Negro

By Paul Honda on September 22, 2019

Coach Jason Negro and his staff took all precautions as the St. John Bosco Braves enjoyed their stay on Oahu. They gorged at a luau, took in the show at the Polynesian Cultural Center, hit the beach for some snorkeling. Most all, they got their work in, and it showed in a 42-10 win over upset-minded Mililani on Saturday night at John Kauinana Stadium. Senior quarterback DJ Uiagalelei was at his superlative best with 370 total yards and four TDs […]

Nanakuli’s Tahj Hauhio adds name to the record book in win over McKinley

By Noelle Kakimoto on September 22, 2019

Nanakuli took advantage of the momentum gained from its overtime victory against Pearl City last week to dominate McKinley Saturday night in a 42-6 victory at Ticky Vasconcellos Stadium. The Golden Hawks (4-3, 3-2) scored fast and often, notching their first touchdown less than three minutes into the game when senior QB Sedric Crawford ran in a 1-yard score. Junior receiver Kekoa Torres was one of the Golden Hawks’ offensive stars as he scored his first of three touchdowns on […]

Time stands still as No. 10 Kamehameha shocks Farrington in final seconds

By Christian Shimabuku on September 22, 2019

When Kamehameha’s Kiai Keone flicked Saturday night’s game-winning touchdown to a wide open Kalanikuikahi Lorenzo, it seemed that time stood still for a moment. Keone said afterward that he was so confident in the play call that he knew Lorenzo would be there with room to spare. When the 9-yard rainbow landed in the sophomore’s hands with 5 seconds left to give the Warriors a 28-25 comeback victory at Farrington, it was just like practice. “I knew the play that […]

Moanalua’s RJ Javar and Waipahu’s Alfred Failauga continue to fill up the stat sheet

By Kyle Sakamoto on September 22, 2019

Moanalua quarterback RJ Javar leads the state in passing yards and Waipahu running back Alfred Failauga, Hawaii’s all-time leading rusher, is blowing away everyone else in rushing yards this season. Yet neither player has a Division I scholarship offer, which remains befuddling after the performance of both in Saturday’s clash at Waipahu. Javar and Failauga both shined with No. 6 Na Menehune holding off the Marauders 31-28 in an OIA Division I contest. Javar completed 28 of 45 passes for […]

No. 5 Campbell thwarts Waianae’s spirited ambush attempt

By Nick Abramo on September 21, 2019

Scuffling along through a difficult season, a proud Waianae football team rose up and took aim at knocking off No. 5 Campbell on Saturday night. Staggered early in the contest in Ewa Beach, the Seariders responded resoundingly and landed some big blows before bowing out 41-31. Had it not been for Campbell’s finely-tuned offense, an upset could have been there for the taking. Titus Mokiao-Atimalala, the Sabers’ whiz-kid receiver, did some serious damage to Waianae’s chances. It was the Campbell […]

A QB for the ages, Clemson commit DJ Uiagalelei leads the way for St. John Bosco

By Paul Honda on September 21, 2019

Jason Negro didn’t confine his talented team once it arrived in the islands. The longtime St. John Bosco coach didn’t mince words either about the danger of looking past the Mililani Trojans. His Braves came through on Saturday night with a 42-10 win over Hawaii’s second-ranked team at John Kauinana Stadium. The Braves turned two interceptions by defensive back Josh Alford into first-half touchdowns. The second takeaway by Alford turned into a pick-6, a 26-yard scoring return that opened the […]
