Moanalua’s RJ Javar (concussion) will start against ‘Iolani

Moanalua quarterback RJ Javar is back in the saddle. Seabury Hall didn’t have 8-man football in 2019, but it raised the ‘flag’

Seabury Hall was one of the founding schools in the MIL 8-man football program in the early 2010s. But the school did not have enough football players for the 2019 season and might not have a team for 2020. Could the third time be the charm for the Campbell Sabers when the Open Division semifinals of the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA Football State Championships take place Friday at Aloha Stadium? Campbell (6-5) went to Kahuku (8-3) and lost 35-7 on Aug. 31, then met the Red Raiders in the OIA Open playoffs and lost again 46-0 at Aloha Stadium on Oct. 19. Kapolei’s 10th annual soccer showcase starts Wednesday

The 10th Annual Soccer Showcase at Kapolei — a boys tournament — runs Wednesday through Saturday. The Hurricanes are hosting, with visiting teams Pac-Five, Kamehameha, Mililani, Campbell, Baldwin, Kalani and King Kekaulike also in the field. All teams will play three games over the four days and all are working to get ready for the regular season. Mililani’s Shane Kady got an early start in the trenches

Shane Kady was 5 when he started playing football. It was for the Kihei Dolphins on Maui and his father, Kevin, was the coach. He went on to play Pop Warner in New Jersey for a little while before returning to the islands. Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa underwent surgery on his injured hip Monday and is expected to make a full recovery according to Alabama team physician Dr. Lyle Cain. The team released a statement from Cain on Monday. “Tua underwent successful surgery on his right hip Monday morning in Houston. The procedure went as planned, and he is resting comfortably.
