The final day of the OIA boys basketball regular season on Thursday shook up the league playoff bracket. Leilehua’s 50-49 victory over Mililani gave the Mules the No. 1 seed in the West with the previously undefeated Trojans dropping to the No. 2 seed. Kapolei is back in the OIA boys soccer championship game, trying to win its second title in a row. After dispatching Kalaheo 2-0 in the semifinals at home on Thursday night, the Hurricanes (11-0-1) earned the right to play Kalani on Saturday night, also at home. It has been a long, long time since a Leilehua team walked onto Mililani’s campus and left with a blowout victory. This wasn’t one of those, but the visiting Mules still prevailed. No. 9 Leilehua brought enough guile and heart to overcome two late rallies by Mililani for a resounding 50-49 win on Thursday night. Defending state champion ‘Iolani will attempt to defend its title as the No. 1 seed in the Snapple/HHSAA Girls Basketball State Championships beginning Monday. BIIF champion Konawaena earned the No. 2 seed with OIA champion Kahuku edging out MIL champion Lahainaluna for the No. 3 seed in the bracket released tonight. Moanalua, Kamehameha-Maui and Kamehameha-Hawaii won the various divisions in the HHSAA esports championships Saturday. Moanalua defeated Punahou 2-0 in League of Legends, and Kamehameha-Maui topped Maui 4-2 in Rocket League. In the Smite championship final, Kamehameha-Hawaii defeated Farrington 2-1. The event was held in-person at the HPU Esports Arena at Aloha Tower Marketplace.
