Punahou OL Solatoa Moeai on patient process that led to Utah

By Paul Honda on February 5, 2020

He was there to support his teammates again. Solatoa Moeai had spent years battling for them on the gridiron, an offensive lineman with advantages in physical and cerebral capacities. Punahou went 10-2 with Moeai as a key blocker for a pass-heavy offense that evolved into more downhill running with Vincent Terrell in the backfield. Moeai committed to Utah in December, signing early and joining, among others, Saint Louis safety Kamo‘i Latu as a new Ute. On Wednesday morning, he spent […]

They’re old friends, not by way of the trenches, but via the unpredictable universe of the forward pass. The script wasn’t what Punahou football fans wanted, but in the end, the future is brighter than ever. Wide receiver Koa Eldredge made it official on Wednesday morning, signing his letter of intent to play football and baseball at Brigham Young University. By Paul Honda on February 5, 2020

The Top Gun dream lives on for Kaiser Cambra-Cho. The Saint Louis football player dreamed of becoming a pilot, and his signing with the U.S. Air Force Academy on Wednesday morning brings him one step closer. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound safety was drawn to play football at the Division I level, but the chance to pursue his dream through the Air Force was the deal maker. “I had Army and the University of San Diego. I was actually committed to Army, […]

Hoopbook: A dream Sweet 16 for girls state hoops

By Paul Honda on February 4, 2020

The Snapple/HHSAA Girls Basketball State Championships are underway, and with another day until D-II tips off, and two more days until D-I resumes, this pupule has something in mind. I rarely would prefer a combined tournament, but this year is an exception. Why? The D-II state tourney is in Hilo this season, completely out of sight and range for those of us glued to the D-I tourney. So, there is enough depth from Tsuchiya Road to Waianuenue Avenue for a […]

Punahou’s Taylor Matsubara is soaring after waiting for more than 2 years

By Nick Abramo on February 4, 2020

Taylor Matsubara suffered an ACL injury right after her freshman season with the Punahou varsity girls soccer team. That injury led to serious complications that required multiple surgeries on her knee and took her out of the lineup for her sophomore and junior seasons. But the defender is back in action as a senior and loving it. She made a fine defensive play to stop a late Aiea chance on Monday in a 1-0 victory in the opening round in […]
