Hall of Honor selects 12 more legends

The newest class of the Hall of Honor was selected on Sunday, awarding each athlete a $2,000 scholarship from Enterprise. >> Nanea Estrella, Lahainaluna She is a four-time state champion in wrestling, the sixth girl in state history to do so and the second from Maui, joining Lahainaluna’s Lalelei Mataafa from 2016. On this date in 2013, Evan Enriques overcame injury to lead Kamehameha-Hawaii to a sweep of Kalaheo in the HHSAA boys volleyball tournament. The Warriors fell into an unseeded position after losing to Waiakea in the BIIF tournament, leaving them to face Punahou in the quarterfinal round. On this day in 2008, the Waianae boys volleyball team swept Pearl City and Aiea to take a commanding lead in the OIA Red West. The Seariders, who were ranked No. 5 in the state, were led by setters Aaron Robinson and Desmond Dela Cruz. Aaron Fogatu had 10 kills and Anthony Robinson added eight. On this date in 2012, Punahou lost a rare boys volleyball match at the Clash of the Titans, but it didn’t seem to bother all-world Larry Tuileta. No. 4 Mira Costa upset the No. 2-ranked Buffanblu 25-19, 15-25, 25-14, 25-17, and Tuileta said that if he had to lose to anyone it was good that it was Mira Costa because the visitors were so good. He’s a jumping Jack, a big duke, and he’s only getting better. Jack Deuchar is already off to a great senior year. The 6-foot-7 senior from Punahou signed a letter of intent to play volleyball at USC next season. Makua Lani makes it official: Kahinu Lee is new co-head coach

Kealakehe’s loss is Makua Lani’s gain. Tiny Makua Lani Christian Academy, a private school in Kailua-Kona, has officially welcomed Kahinu Lee to become co-head coach in boys volleyball. With an enrollment of less than 300 students, the Lions were 13-5 overall last season, winning the Big Island Interscholastic Federation Division II title with an unbeaten mark. San Francisco 49ers lineman DeForest Buckner continues to give back to Waianae

DeForest Buckner didn’t attend Waianae High, but he is a Waianae boy and he cares deeply about his roots. Buckner, the former Punahou and Oregon football star and now a defensive lineman for the San Francisco 49ers, made good on his pledge of $10,000 in Nike athletic apparel to the Waianae volleyball teams.
