By Paul Honda on January 30, 2020

It has been a long, long time since a Leilehua team walked onto Mililani’s campus and left with a blowout victory. This wasn’t one of those, but the visiting Mules still prevailed. No. 9 Leilehua brought enough guile and heart to overcome two late rallies by Mililani for a resounding 50-49 win on Thursday night. The go-ahead free throw by Jordan Ke-A with 10.5 seconds left broke a 49-all stalemate. Mililani advanced the ball to midcourt and called time out. […]

There are also schools on the West Coast, mostly smaller, that are burgeoning opportunities. There’s also Washington and UCLA. One way or another, he plans on continuing with football, where he was third in receptions for the Open […]

By Paul Honda on January 24, 2020

Last summer, there was a bit of a tug-of-war over Kordel Ng. Coming off an All-State Fab 15 season, the sky walking junior was in search of a new school after St. Francis closed its doors. First, word was he was accepted at Punahou. Then he was accepted at Kamehameha. In the end, his first choice was the campus at Kapalama Heights, where best friend Christmas Togiai was also heading into senior season. Their combined laser focus as a team […]

Ryder Hsiung had the hottest quarter of the season, swishing five consecutive 3-point shots in the second quarter, to finish with 24 points in Punahou’s 59-49 win over Saint Louis. Third-ranked Punahou improved to 4-2 in ILH play (14-8 overall). Saint Louis had a chance to even its league mark, but dropped to 2-4 (3-8 overall). If not for Hsiung’s torrid shooting — he […]

Liko Soares continued his stellar scoring with 15 points, including 5-for-6 at the free-throw line, to spark the Spartans. Maryknoll improved to 6-1 in ILH play (22-2 overall) with another methodical, walking-on-eggs battle for either team. Spartans coach Kelly Grant wasn’t impressed. […]

In a game of giants, Reggie Eiland knew his place: right in the thick of traffic. The 5-foot-10 senior came up with a key defensive play down the stretch as No. 2 Maryknoll closed the game with a 7-3 run for a 44-40 win over No. 5 Damien on Thursday night at Bishop Scanlan Gymnasium. The game was 40-39, in favor of the visiting Spartans, when Damien’s 6-5 Tino Atonio went to the low post to work on a potential […]
