Roundball wrap: Punahou looks prime

By Paul Honda on December 9, 2013

I saw as much as I possibly could. Thursday: four games at the James Alegre Invitational. Friday: three games at the Black & Gold Classic. Saturday: was busy at a car wash all day, but dragged my okole to Kailua and caught the title game between ‘Iolani and Kamehameha. Here’s what Pupule thinks. Punahou prime: The Buffanblu aren’t perfect by any means, but they’re running the floor, using fullcourt pressure to keep the tempo up. That win over Kalani in […]

LIVE BLOG: ‘Iolani vs. Kamehameha hoops

By Paul Honda on December 7, 2013

‘Iolani 62, Kamehameha 48, Surfrider Classic final ‘Iolani 42, Kamehameha 37, end third quarter Zach Buscher scored five points to spark an 8-4 run by the Raiders to start the second half. Three of those points came on another long-range 3-point set shot. If you’re in the Kailua area, come to the gym. All food is half-price. They don’t really like the Spalding […]

LIVE BLOG: Alegre Invitational

By Paul Honda on December 5, 2013

It’s the 15th edition of the James Alegre Invitational and, as always, easy to remember the legendary coach. Before he passed, every time I came to the tourney, there he was, asking if I was hungry, if I’d had something to eat. I always said yes, because the food at Radford’s concession stand was always A+. There were always experienced hands in the kitchen, like athletic director Kelly Sur’s mom. Alegre played at Honokaa High School back in the years […]
