Farrington’s guts arrive in final quarter

By Nick Abramo on January 21, 2015

Farrington was clearly outplayed by visiting Kalaheo for three quarters in Wednesday night’s 52-38 loss. It was the fourth quarter, however, that Governors coach Allan Silva wants his boys to remember. Seriously, he would like the Govs to forget nearly everything they did before they came out with their hearts on fire in the final period. Why? The reason is simple: because Silva doesn’t want to see that kind of lukewarm early performance again. With good reason: The Mustangs owned […]

Kalaheo rides out fourth-quarter wobble

By Nick Abramo on January 21, 2015

Coach Alika Smith was neither overjoyed nor disgruntled after No. 1 Kalaheo dispatched No. 8 Farrington 52-38 on Wednesday night at the Governors’ gym. Smith felt the Mustangs stayed within their game for most of the first three quarters before running into a locomotive in the fourth. Farrington put everything it had into a final-quarter rally, stealing the momentum and cutting what had been a 16-point Mustangs lead to eight, 40-32, with about three minutes to go. In that fourth […]

The final 12.2 seconds of a wild battle between No. 2 Punahou and No. 3 Saint Louis in ILH play at McCabe Gym. Down 58-56 with 1.7 seconds to go, Punahou’s Kala‘i Santos banks in a 74-foot prayer for the miraculous win as his team overcomes a 13-point deficit.

VIDEO: Miracles happen, just ask Santos

By Paul Honda on January 15, 2015

OK, let’s be real. When anyone makes a shot from 70, 80 or 90 feet away to win a game, that shooter has beaten severe and extreme odds. There are promotional contests across the US (and probably the globe) that offer crazy prizes (cash, free tuition, car, etc.) for anyone who can make a halfcourt shot, and that’s just 47 or 42 feet away in most gymnasiums and arenas. According to SCA Promotions in Dallas, the odds of making a […]
