Moanalua road-bound in March

In case there’s any confusion, the OIA baseball game between Moanalua and Kailua is set for Saturday, 3 p.m., at Kailua’s field. There was some question about whether there would be testing earlier in the day (ACT) or not. According to Moanalua coach Scott Yamada, there is testing. Baseball, volleyball standouts sign letters

Eight volleyball players and eight baseball players were among the signees at the Pacific Islands Athletic Alliance letter-of-intent signing event this morning at Elks Lodge Waikiki. In all, 29 student-athletes signed letters, including record-breaking swimmer Jasmine Mau of Punahou. As a product of the UCLA baseball program, Billy Pieper delighted in the Bruins’ run to their first College World Series title in June. Pieper named Kamehameha baseball coach

Billy Pieper, a former two-sport standout at Kamehameha, will return to the Kapalama campus as the Warriors’ new baseball coach, the school announced today. Pieper succeeds Vern Ramie, who resigned from the position in June after 23 years as head coach. Pieper, a 1996 graduate of Kamehameha, played for Ramie and served as an assistant coach from 2002-10, a span during which the Warriors reached the state tournament semifinals five times and played for the title on three occasions. Punahou SS Branton commits to Stanford

Punahou shortstop Beau Branton has orally committed to Stanford. “I found out that I was officially admitted today,” Branton said on Thursday morning. “I feel pretty awesome. It’s one of the best feelings ever.” There was interest from other schools, but Branton narrowed his choices to Stanford, Harvard, Cornell, Columbia, Penn and Dartmouth. “Stanford is a place with the highest standards for academics and athletics. Saint Louis senior Jordan Yamamoto has given an oral commitment to play baseball at the University of Arizona, he said Wednesday night. Yamamoto called Arizona his “dream school from his freshman year” and earned a nice scholarship offer after topping out at 92-93 MPH at the Area Code tryouts for the Milwaukee Brewers at Westmont College in Montecito, Calif. The 50th anniversary of ‘Iolani’s Father Bray Classic is Saturday night at Aloha Stadium, featuring the Raiders hosting Kalani in the nightcap.
