Perkins ‘graduates’ to Kamehameha varsity coach

Kamehameha didn’t go far to find its new baseball coach. Tom Perkins, the intermediate baseball coach at the school since 1996, is well-versed in all aspects of Warriors baseball and that should serve him well in his new job at the varsity level. Spikers lead LOI fall signing class

A dozen volleyball players were among nearly three dozen student-athletes who signed their letters of intent early Wednesday morning at the Elks Lodge in Waikiki. The event, hosted each signing season by Pacific Islands Athletic Alliance (PIAA), featured a multitude of sports for the fall signing period. The 12 volleyball players include UH signee McKenna Granato, who sparked Punahou to the state championship last week. Purple and gold is going to be a very familiar sight at Patsy Mink Central Oahu Regional Park this academic year.  Hanalani is branching out to the diamond to field its first varsity and intermediate baseball teams.  A lot of energy is going into its fledgling baseball program, which has 16 varsity players, 16 intermediate players, and ILH D-II coach of the year Brian Tsutsui, formerly of Pac-Five. Medeiros officially signs with Brewers

Kodi Medeiros can finally begin his professional career. The 12th overall pick of the 2014 MLB draft signed a contract with the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday morning, guaranteeing the Waiakea High alumnus a $2.5 million signing bonus, the Star-Advertiser has confirmed. Medeiros also gets an addition $240,000 for four years of college at Pepperdine, where he signed last fall but will not attend after the Brewers made him the highest draft pick ever selected from Hawaii without going to college. Waiakea’s Kodi Medeiros confirmed Friday that he will be attending the 2014 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Thursday, June 5, in Secaucus, N.J. The left-hander is projected as a first-round draft pick and would become the third player drafted in the first round straight out of high school from Hawaii, joining Waipahu’s Jerome Williams (No. 39 overall) in 1999 and Kamehameha’s Bronson Sardinha (No. 34 overall) in 2001.
