The Surfriders (12-2) scored their only run on a sacrifice fly in the second inning. Kalua Neves led off with a single to right, and courtesy runner Brandon Sarae went to second on Dylan Kurahashi Choy-Foo’s bunt single. Stone Parker then laid down a […]

The ILH baseball season finally came to an end on Friday with ‘Iolani defeating Punahou 11-5 at Hans L’Orange Park. The game originally started a week ago but was halted in the bottom of the second inning with the Raiders ahead 7-2. Micah Miyahira‘s three-run triple helped ‘Iolani pull away to finish the ILH season at 11-3-1, a half-game ahead of Punahou 11-4. With the Buffanblu loss, Mid-Pacific clinched the ILH regular season and a return trip to states after […]

Pearl City locks up return to state tournament

By Jason Kaneshiro on April 19, 2018

Sam Prentice called it “redemption.” Just over a year ago, a loss to Moanalua in the consolation semifinals ended the Chargers’ season in the OIA playoffs. On Thursday, Prentice and fellow Pearl City senior Cade Halemanu helped power the Chargers to a 4-1 home win over Na Menehune to advance to the OIA semifinals and secure a return to the Division I baseball state tournament. Halemanu held Moanalua to three singles and struck out 10 in a complete-game victory. He […]

Kyson Donahue went 2-for-3 with two walks, two runs scored and an RBI and recorded the final three outs via strikeout on the mound for the Buffanblu (11-3), who won for […]

Deja vu all over again: Saints win ILH D-II 1st round

By Paul Honda on April 18, 2018

Grit is not even half the story when it comes to the way St. Francis and Damien battle in just about every sport. One school (St. Francis) recently converted from an all-girls enrollment to a co-ed student body. The other (Damien) also made recent changes, from an all-boys campus to co-ed. In the past year alone, Damien has stymied St. Francis’ ILH Division II football championship hopes. In fact, that goes back to the 2016 season. In boys basketball, St. […]

Nothing is settled in ILH baseball

By Billy Hull on April 16, 2018

While Damien coach Timo Donahue met with his team after a 9-5 loss to No. 5 ‘Iolani on Monday at Goeas Field, many of his assistant coaches were gathered around a cell phone. They were checking in on St. Francis’ game against Pac-Five that was tied 9-9 in the seventh inning at Ala Wai Field. A St. Francis win would mean Damien would need to beat the Saints four times over the next two weeks to win the ILH and […]

Campbell ranked No. 1 for first time this season

By Billy Hull on April 16, 2018

A fourth team has climbed to No. 1 in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser Baseball Top 10 this season. OIA West regular-season champion Campbell, which opens the OIA tournament at home on Thursday, received five of 10 first-place votes and is the new No. 1, replacing Baldwin, which suffered its first loss of the season to Kamehameha-Maui last week. The Sabers had an 18-game, regular-season OIA winning streak snapped in 12 innings to Pearl City in March but have rebounded to win […]
