This time, there was no doubt, and the Rams broke through with a 14-2 mercy rule victory in five innings over Waipahu. “Knowing a lot of the guys played here last year, I think just knowing the […]

By Paul Honda on April 27, 2019

Campbell. Mililani. Epic. The Campbell Sabers and Mililani Trojans have a storied rivalry that goes far back on the diamond. Each of the powerhouse baseball programs needed to dig down deep on Friday night in the semifinal round to reach the finals of the OIA playoffs. For Mililani, it took a two-out bloop single by Waika Fukuda in the bottom of the 11th inning to eke out a hard-earned 4-3 win over Kaiser. “I told him to go out and […]

The Crusaders ended Mid-Pacific’s Cinderella run in the ILH playoffs on Thursday with a 9-6 win at Patsy T. Mink Central Oahu Regional Park. Until Thursday, the double-elimination format meant MPI’s state-tournament hopes were healthy and alive. The Owls had proven again to be ‘Iolani’s kryptonite, beating them twice during the regular season, then against on Wednesday to eliminate the Raiders from the playoffs. […]

Kaiser’s Curtis Chung toughens out start to pitch Cougars to states

By Billy Hull on April 25, 2019

The pain started to come in the second inning, but Kaiser’s Curtis Chung Jr. knew he had a job to do if he wanted to pitch in the state tournament. A year ago, Kaiser suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 loss in eight innings to OIA West top seed Campbell in the OIA quarterfinals, but the even bigger disappointment came a day later in a 13-inning loss to Kalani in the consolation semifinals. In a 24-hour span, Kaiser went from being on […]

Mid-Pacific’s bats finally heating up in ILH tournament

By Jason Kaneshiro on April 24, 2019

In the midst of a frigid April, Mid-Pacific’s offense picked an opportune time to reignite. Following an 8-7 loss to Kamehameha in 15 innings on March 30, the Owls were shut out in their next three games, not including scoreless matchup with Pac-Five that was called in the third inning due a brush fire that threatened Central Oahu Regional Park. After being held to a total of seven hits in losses to Punahou (4-0), Saint Louis (1-0) and Kamehameha (1-0), […]
