Circumstances won’t allow ‘Iolani athletic director Carl Schroers to mosey into retirement.
Schroers, who announced his intention to retire after the school year, is busy looking for new coaches.
Boys volleyball coach Carl Rallita resigned from his position on Friday, citing time constraints. Last month, baseball coach Brent Shimokawa and softball coach Corey Okamura also departed.
Rallita was hired in 2013 after two years coaching the junior varsity. He spent a decade in Kamehameha’s program before that.
“I greatly appreciate the opportunity to coach at ‘Iolani School,” Rallita wrote in an email. “I’m thankful to have received an extreme amount of support throughout the years and I’m confident that the program is definitely headed in the right direction. Mahalo to everyone for allowing me to lead such a wonderful program filled with so many wonderful people. Aloha”
The Raiders haven’t been to the state tournament since 2010 and won their last state title in 2008 under Mike Among.
The deadline for applications for ‘Iolani’s open boys volleyball position is June 16. Interested coaches should contact Schroers at schroers@iolani.org.
Iolani has to find a way to get Teoni Obrey. He is an alum and his brother coaches the Iolani girls.
