The Division II title game of the OC-16/HHSAA Boys Basketball State Championships is at halftime with University High ahead of Seabury Hall 21-15.
Micah Agcaoili has seven points, Anson Canencia as six and Otto Taylor has five to lead the Junior ‘Bows. Their big men, Lachlan Macleod and Ryan Hobus, are 0-7 from the field. Hobus is 2-for-2 from the free-throw line and has two points.
Seabury Hall has eight points from gunner Cameron Hanish, who has hit two treys over UHS’ zone. Neither team is shooting well; UHS is at 28 percent (7-for-25) and Seabury Hall is at 35 percent (6-for-17). One difference is turnovers. UHS has just two and the Spartans have nine already.
THIRD QUARTER
Time out, Seabury Hall, 4:47 after a steal by Otto Taylor. He’s going to the foul line. Spartans still cold from the perimeter, no real low-post offense. They like to use 6-foot-3 Christian Jenkins as a pick-and-roll guy on the top. Taylor hits the first FT, 27-18. Second shot no good.
TV time out, 3:28. UHS leads 27-20.
UHS increased the lead to nine again, but committed an unnecessary foul on a FT miss. Seabury’s Peter Konohia swished both free throws on the 1-and-1 to cut it to 31-24 with :03.7 left in the quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER
UHS spreads the court and Seabury Hall can’t do much to stop the speed and passing of Anson Canencia and Micah Agcaoili. Canencia’s feed to Charlie Fox for a layup makes it 39-28. Time out, Spartans, 4:10.
