Tatupu back as Farrington girls hoops coach

Caroline Tatupu is the new Farrington varsity girls basketball coach, Governors athletic director Harold Tanaka confirmed Monday.

Tatupu was previously the Govs girls basketball coach before downgrading to assistant coach for a few seasons and then taking a break all of last season.

Steven Leopoldo, the girls coach last season, was hired as the Farrington boys coach in June. That hire came after Allan Silva left the boys varsity post to take the Saint Louis head coach position.

“She won three OIA titles with us and was here a very long time,” Tanaka said about Tatupu. “She is on top of it with the girls as far as academics go, too. It’s a nice fit again.

“She needed a break (last year) and she got the (coaching) bug again.”

Tatupu is Leopoldo’s sister-in-law.

Caroline Tatupu and Melanie Azama were a great 1 – 2 punch for Iolani back in the day. Glad Caroline is back coaching the Lady Govs!
