Another year, another Gatorade shower for Chanelle Molina.

USA Today reports that the Konawaena basketball standout was selected as Gatorade player of the year in Hawaii for the second season in a row. Molina sparked her Wildcats to the Division I state championship in February (17 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 steals per game).

Gatorade’s firm criteria includes an emphasis in academics. Molina, who has numerous scholarship offers, has a 3.57 grade-point adverage.

Punahou coach Kevin Velasco, whose team lost to Konawaena in the state quarterfinals, praised Molina in the USA Today report.

“Chanelle Molina is a very gifted young student athlete who has all the skills and court savvy that any coach would love to have,” he said. “But what I really like about her is the way that she leads her team. She is very positive at all times and never have I seen her raise her voice to her teammates. She loves the game and enjoys playing with the other girls on the team.”

Will be interesting as to what college she will attend. Would be nice if she goes to UH but I bet some PAC 12 teams will come calling like Washington State for one.

Kazu, they already have. Credit Laura Beeman for being the first to offer back in Chanelle’s sophomore year.
