Halftime: Lahainaluna 29, Chestermere (Canada) 11
Lahainaluna went on a 14-0 run to break open a close game for a 26-10 lead late in the second quarter.
Q3: Lahainaluna 37, Chestermere 25, :58
The Lakers are pushing hard, just not hitting shots. Their coach has been on them all game long, and he emphasized their need to go above screens instead of under them defensively. Chestermere cut the lead to about 10 or 11 at one point, but the Lunas keep responding. Chestermere’s sideline traps have made no real difference.
Lunas call a time out after failing to box out at all on the last two possessions. They had the lead back up to 15.
End Q3: Lahainaluna 39, Chestermere 27
I think the Lakers have one good run left. They can score easily inside when they rotate the ball. They’ve got the height advantage. But Lahainaluna has played solid man defense and the Lakers look fatigued.
Final: Lahainaluna 47, Chestermere 32
Josh Chapital was strong with the ball and fearless against the much taller Lakers. He led the Lunas with 16 points, hitting two treys. Big Cyrus Kama struggled with some foul trouble, but still scored eight points and provided solid defense down the stretch.
Jay Gill and Jeff Rodehutskors had 12 points each for Chestermere.
