The second game of the day tips off in a few minutes. No. 5 Kamehameha edged Kalani 65-59 in the first game.


FIRST QUARTER
Ragged play and a lot of missed open shots for both teams. Sifo Lauvao hit a 22-foot trey to bring the Bulldogs within 12-11 going into the second stanza.

SECOND QUARTER
Hurricanes are destroying Kaimuki on the offensive glass. Coach Greydon Espinda is imploring his Bulldogs to box out, but so far they aren’t listening.

Lauvao drains another 3 and the Bulldogs pull ahead. Kapolei is breaking traps out of Kaimuki’s 2-3 zone, getting a corner 3 and a layup through the middle.

Bulldogs with fullcourt pressure out of a time out. Steal and layup for a 22-20 lead. KPO then called for an offensive foul, then a missed layup.

Bulldogs get another steal for a layup. Espinda using his athletes and going 10 deep. Fun to watch.

Three more giveaways by KPO and Kaimuki scores two buckets at the rim including a tip by Christian Ono for a 28-22 lead. That’s an 8-2 run.

‘Canes score before the half. Kaimuki leads at intermission 28-24.

THIRD QUARTER
Kaimuki started to take advantage of PG Keanu Pratt’s size advantage and isolated him low post. That and a few sharp passes got Ono a wide-open 3. Kapolei then switched to a 2-3 zone and rallied for a 34-33 lead.

Ono hit another trey and Lauvao scored on a drive. Lauvao brings scoring punch off the bench and is the X Factor. He hits two FTs to give Kaimuki a 39-34 lead. KPO time out, 1:24.

Third quarter ends with Kaimuki ahead 39-35.

FOURTH QUARTER
KPO still trying traps out of its 2-3 zone but Pratt swung the ball and Ono got fouled on a drive. Ono has scored four points on drive FTs. Kaimuki leads 48-43 with 2:45 left.

Kapolei steal, intentional foul on Lauvao. FT cuts it to 50-46 1:28.


Time out KPO with :46 left. Kaimuki leass 53-46.

:11.2 left, Kaimuki up 54-48.
