The second half of the quarterfinal round is on. Mid-Pacific against Westchester (Los Angeles) to begin the four-game set today.

Oak Ridge (Orlando, Fla.) 119, Kailua 49, FINAL
Niven Glover, a 6-foot-5 senior, pumped in 33 points to lead Oak Ridge. Glover wowed the crowd with several high-flying dunks. Christopher Walker, a 6-9 post, added 22 points and Jalen Smith tallied 12. Freshman Lewis Jones stroked five 3-pointers for 15 points off the bench. Oak Ridge is ranked No. 20 by MaxPreps.

Everett Torres-Kahapea led Kailua with 18 points, including three treys. Nainoa Peters chipped in 10 points.

Oak Ridge’s Niven Glover, a 6-5 senior, is putting on a dunk show that included a 360 slam.

John Sniffen has given Kailua a spark with a lot of hustle and screening. He’s a burly 6-3 post.

The Surfriders were flat for about 5 minutes, but got a spark from Lydell Romero attacking the basket.

Sierra Canyon 98, Hawaii Prep 32, FINAL
Scottie Pippen Jr. led the Blazers with 18 points. Christian Koloko added 16 and Cassius Stanley tallied 13, mostly on sensational breakaway dunks. Kenyon Martin Jr. chipped in 11, including a pair of dunks in the first half that electrified the audience. Oak Ridge is ranked No. 4 in the MaxPreps national rankings.

Valentinas Ulinas paced HPA with 10 points.

Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.) 61, Hawaii Prep 10, halftime
Blazers had at least 10 dunks, most of them highlight-reel quality.

Complete domination by the Blazers’ defense. Deflections, steals, layups. 7-foot Christian Kokomo has a few lob dunks and layups.

The Trailblazers’ fullcourt pressure is overwhelming Ka Makani. Sierra Canyon’s roster includes Scottie Pippen’s son, Scottie Jr., and Kenyon Martin’s son, Kenyon Jr.

Pleasant Grove 57, Moanalua 45, FINAL
7-foot-4 center Matt Van Komen led the Vikings with 18 points despite sitting with foul trouble in the second and third quarters. Tyler Fairbanks added 14 points, including four treys. DiAeris McRaven led Moanalua with 12 points. Isaiah Sugiura chipped in 10 points. Geremy Robinson had nine points before fouling out.

The difference in the game may have been at the foul line. The Vikings shot 2-for-4 while Na Menehune were 11-for-22.


Pleasant Grove 52, Moanalua 39, 3:30, Q4
Robinson fouls out with more than 5 minutes left. Pleasant Grove’s run is up to 14-1 in the fourth after a lob dunk and a lob layup by Van Komen.

Pleasant Grove 46, Moanalua 38, 5:52, Q4
8-0 run by the Vikings to begin the fourth. McRaven has to leave due to a cut on his hand that’s bleeding, and Van Komen goes to work inside while he’s out.

DeAeris McRaven with another roof on Matt Van Komen, but the 7-4 C answers a moment later with a two-handed jam. Finally, a close game.

Geremy Robinson in foul trouble after another offensive foul. Matt Van Komen’s bank shot in the paint gives the Vikings the lead.

The local twist for Pleasant Grove is G Kawika Akina, who started as a freshman at Kahuku before transferring. He is sidelined with a hand injury. His coaches are wearing black T-shirts with his number (21) and name on them.

Pleasant Grove 13, Moanalua 12, end Q1
Van Komen is in foul trouble after an offensive foul, well-executed flop by Moanalua C DeAeris McRaven, who also roofed a Van Komen shot in the paint. Abstrong quarter for Moanalua. Geremy Robinson is getting off any shot he wants so far against the Vikings’ man defense.

Pleasant Grove (Utah) 6, Moanalua 2, 5:40, Q1
Next up is Moanalua against Pleasant Grove (Utah), which features 7-foot-4 Matt Van Komen. In warmups, he showed a nice lefty and righty jump hook.

Westchester 56, Mid-Pacific 31, FINAL
The Comets’ bigs, Ke‘Veon Batiste (6-8) and Kaelen Allen scored 12 points each to lead the way. Colin Ramos paced the Owls with 11 points.

Westchester 51, Mid-Pacific 22, end Q3
Owls got some nice execution in the paint with buckets by Colin Ramos and Hugh Donlon, but the Comets haven’t let up defensively at all.

Westchester 40, Mid-Pacific 9, halftime
The Owls are trying like heck to execute offensively. The Comets are just that much tougher defensively. They don’t have a Top 5 player like La Lumiere, but they’ve got great team defense. Straight man, fullcourt.

Westchester 19, Mid-Pacific 4, end Q1
The Comets are active defensively in fullcourt man, long and tough. MPI can’t get a clean look. Ka’Veon Batiste, the 6-9 post, is especially tough.

The Owls call time out after coming up empty on four possessions. Meanwhile, the Comets have crashed the offensive glass, hit a 3 and are in control.
