The second varsity game of the day at the James Alegre Invitational, day four, pits No. 10 Lahainaluna against host Radford.
FIRST QUARTER
9-0 run by Lahainaluna has opened the lead to 15-5 with 1:45 left. Nice execution by the Lunas against Radford’s 2-3 zone.
Quarter ends with the Lunas ahead 19-9.
SECOND QUARTER
More excellent execution by the Lunas. Radford switched to man defense, but the Lunas do a nice job on ball reversal and entry lobs to the low post. Very well-coached.
Lunas lead at the half 29-18.
THIRD QUARTER
The Lunas unveil some fullcourt pressure, and it works. But their halfcourt offense is close to impeccable. That’s their bread and butter. So very few wasted possessions. Lunas lead the Rams 43-27 after three.
FOURTH QUARTER
I should mention this much more often. Lahainaluna plays tough, disciplined defense in the halfcourt on every possession. It’s a 50-31 game with 3:23 to go and the Lunas are still diving for all loose balls.
