Kamehameha’s Christmas Togiai named Gatorade player of year

The awards and honors are piling up for Christmas Togiai.

The Kamehameha senior was named Gatorade boys basketball player of the year in Hawaii on Thursday. Togiai averaged 14 points, six rebounds and nearly three blocks per game for the Warriors. He was voted by coaches and media the Star-Advertiser All-State player of the year. He was also selected ILH player of the year.


Kamehameha (28-6) won the ILH with a perfect 13-0 record and reached the state tournament final. Togiai suffered a season-ending knee injury in the semifinals against Kahuku. Kamehameha lost to rival Maryknoll in the title game.


He has a 3.8 grade-point average and has signed with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Ariz.). His goal after playing college basketball is to become a commercial pilot.
