Five of the state’s Top 10 boys basketball team are heading to Windward Oahu on Thursday.

The Surfriders Holiday Classic opens championship-bracket format action with defending Division II state champion Kohala against No. 10 Campbell at 3:30 p.m. Kohala features brothers Landon and Layden Kauka, as well as a thrilling run-and-gun style of ball that has been a tradition for decades. Campbell was a finalist in the D-I state tourney last year. The Sabers are coming off a loss to University, a D-II powerhouse that lost to Kohala in the D-II state title game.

The big draw is Saint Louis, the two-time D-I defending state champion. The Crusaders will play University at 6:30 p.m.

Kamehameha and Kailua shared the No. 5 spot in the Star-Advertiser Top 10 and will face unranked competition today. Baldwin will play Kamehameha at 5 p.m., while Kailua hosts Waipahu at 8 p.m.

Last year, ‘Iolani defeated Kailua in the final, 64-50. Campbell took third place with a 48-47 win over Kamehameha.
