JAN 4, 2005: David Moore makes Kalaheo his team

For much of his early prep basketball career, Kalaheo’s David Moore was known as a defensive stopper.

But on this date in 2005, after starting since his sophomore year, he showed that he was going to be so much more for his senior season.

Moore scored 14 of his 23 points in the second half and the Mustangs opened their league season with a 59-50 win over Castle. The Knights led by a point at halftime before Moore took off. Kahua Hollinger added 13 points for the four-time defending champions.

Kahuku ended Kalaheo’s streak by winning the OIA and Moore had 19 points in a state semifinal loss to Iolani. He was 20-for-20 from the free-throw line in the tournament. Moore, the lone senior to earn significant minutes for Kalaheo, went 10-for-10 from the line against Kauai in the quarterfinal and scored eight points in the final two minutes.

Pretty random post. I do remember Kalaheo didn’t even make it to the finals of the Kalaheo tournament that year. Kind of underachieved that year.
