The Saint Louis-‘Iolani game that was halted by rain on Friday afternoon will resume on Saturday, 3 p.m., at Ala Wai Field.
That, however, is the only concrete decision that has been made since the playoff game — for a state-tournament berth — was officially postponed at 4:32 p.m. with heavy rain and lingering, gray clouds above the field.
The big question is whether the game will be played from the point of today’s stoppage — ‘Iolani led 2-1 and had a runner on base in the top of the fourth inning — or perhaps the game would start from scratch.
The initial decision by umpires was to suspend the game and resume it on Saturday from the point of the stoppage (fourth inning), but Saint Louis has protested. During the regular season, a Saint Louis-MPI game that was stopped due to rain ended up starting all over on a later date.
ILH baseball coordinator Carl Schroerers recused himself from the decision because he is ‘Iolani’s athletic director. The league is expected to make a decision, but there may not be an announcement until game time.
