Kailua senior left-handed pitcher Joey Cantillo was honored by MaxPreps.com recently.
In a feature about the top high school baseball player in all 50 states, Cantillo was picked as the Hawaii player.
Cantillo went 5-1 for the Surfriders last year with 51 strikeouts and a 1.23 earned-run average.
The 6-foot-4, 225-pound Cantillo also batted .324 last year.
The Surfriders won the Oahu Interscholastic Association championship in 2016, but were eliminated by Campbell 5-0 in the quarterfinals of the state tournament.
A phone call to Kailua coach Corey Ishigo for comment was not immediately returned.
