Bonecrusher’s baseball ballot

Billy Hull, a.k.a. The Bonecrusher, is more than willing to share his ballot this week for the Star-Advertiser Baseball Top 10 poll. Here’s how Billy assessed the field.

1. Waiakea – best pitching in the state, including two UH commits, plus they got some Wong fella.

2. Mid-Pacific – Early ILH favorite, Marcus Doi will be in player of the year discussion

3. Baldwin – Kaupe looks to me like the best second baseman in the state

4. Punahou – Big dog never stays down long

5. Kailua – Always dangerous under Ishigo. They had quite a few juniors playing in the state tourney last year and added a transfer from Kaiser…

6. Pearl City – Gotta reward two wins over Aiea and Campbell

7. Saint Louis – Losing Akau is a big loss. Top catching prospect in the state

8. Campbell – Tough loss to the Chargers

9. Moanalua – Played the Surfriders close. Great head coach.

10. Leilehua – Big win over Waianae

Disagree? Billy is open to debate, but don’t expect him to change his mind, at least not until next week.

I disagree that Waikea should be #1, their competition in the Big island is nowhere near Oahu or the MIL, Mid Pac is loaded this year and should come down to Mid Pac & Baldwin at the States. Baldwin is the sleeper this year again,3rd baseman Rahni Pantorilla
is the best at third base in the state, at 6’0 205 lbs with an arm and a bat, Baldwin and Mid Pac is the team to beat. Travis Garcia Perreira is a very competitive athlete both as a pitcher and a batter.Their entire team is just too strong.
Sorry Waikea should be about #9 unless they can show that they can come from behind and win from a huge deficit. Baldwin can score at will especially when behind early.
    1. Mid Pac 2.Baldwin 3. Kailua 4. Punahou 5.Pearl City 6.St. Louis 7.Moanalua  8.Campbell 9. Waikea 10.Iolani

Pono, please at least spell Waiakea correctly.  Also, while I agree that the competition in the BIIF is not on par with Oahu, to say that the MIL is better than the BIIF is a stretch to say the least.  The MIL has not put a team in the top 3 in state competition since 2001.  Also, last year the team from Maui looked terrible against Pearl City who did not have 3 of their top players.  Then Waiakea came in with a team full of juniors and gave um a run for their money.  To say Baldwin is a #2 team over Waiakea based on the fact that the MIL has higher competition levels than the BIIF is a joke

Pono, please at least have the courtesy of spelling Waiakea correctly.  While I agree that Waiakea may not be a #1, or that the competition of the BIIF is not up to par with Oahu, the MIL is definitely not stronger than the BIIF.  The MIL has not placed a team in the top 3 at states since 2001.  I’m not trying to disrespect the MIL, but I’ve watched states for the past 5 or 6 years, and have consistently felt that the MIL is the weakest league of the three by far.  Waiakea may not be a #1, but to say they are a #9 and Baldwin is a #2 because the MIL is better than the BIIF is quite a stretch, and there is no history or statistics to back that up.

Please if you say you have watched the the state competition for the past 5-6 years then you would know that in 2010 Baldwin played for the State championship vs Punahou, in 2011 they placed in the top 4, the only reason there was no playoff for the 3rd place was due to rain and that would have been against Kailua, by the way Baldwin lost in the semis vs Moanalua. So please if you are going to insult someone make sure you have all the facts.
I am not here to debate with you but merely stating the facts, the fact is Mid Pac should win possibly the States but they would have to go through Baldwin to do it.
Obviously you haven’t been watching OC16 the last 2 years, if you did then you would know what I am saying.
In answer to your ‘Facts” as to Baldwin has never been in the top 3 since 2001, Get your facts straight!!

By the way last year you said we played Pearl City, again please get your facts straight, that didn’t happened, that was against Kamehameha Maui.
