Somera stepping up in senior year

Pearl City shooter Ashley Somera shot a season-high 532 with 13 bulls-eyes in an air riflery win over Campbell on Wednesday.

The Chargers remained unbeaten at 4-0.

Somera, one of only two seniors on a Chargers team that is trying to defend its OIA crown, has three of the top four reported scores in the OIA this year. She has scores of 524 and 518 so far this year.


Somera finished sixth at states last year with a 531, and was the top OIA shooter there.

Kayla Hooker of of Kailua shot a 518 in Wednesday’s win over McKinley, hitting the bull 14 times.


In other results, Kalani beat Castle, Roosevelt beat Kahuku, Moanalua beat Kaimuki, Kapolei beat Waialua, Leilehua beat Waipahu and Radford beat Waianae.

Grzeskczak joins 500 club

Zane Grzeskczak of Pearl City joined the 500 club on Wednesday in a win over Campbell, shooting an even 500 with nine bulls.

of Leilehua also shot a 500 in a win over Waipahu, but he has been there before with an OIA-best 516 earlier this year.


Other OIA boys who have shot better than 499 this year are Cameron Kon of Pearl City with a 514, Rayden Relacion of Pearl City with a 511 and 504, James Sison of Leilehua with a 506 and Wesley Scott of Moanalua with a 500.

Other boys team winners on Wednesday were Kalani over Castle, Kailua over McKinley, Roosevelt over Kahuku, Moanalua over Kaimuki and Radford over Waianae.
