1963 prep football all-star teams

As the 2017 Honolulu Star-Advertiser’s football All-State team release draws near, periodically we are going to ask a spreadsheet to generate a random number between 1947 and 2016.

Whichever year pops up, we will post that season’s all-star pages here.

It’s 1963’s turn, when Farrington’s Bob Apisa and Charles Wedemeyer of Punahou were the boys to stop in the ILH and Warner Wong of Roosevelt was the big man on campus. Kamehameha had three all stars for its league title.

Kailua won the ROIA by dominating in the trenches, getting four of the five first-team interior linemen.

Check out the second-team linemen on the ILH list, which includes Cal Lee of Kalani and Norm Chow of Punahou.

Jerry, thanks for the post. Would you have the resources to find old high school football games from the late 60’s? Like 1967-1968?

Probably, Chad, I think I have one of those years already in and waiting to be published. Maybe after I finish this, which might take a while, I will start fulfilling specific requests.

HI Jerry, Can we request for R.O.I.A all stars from 1964-1969. I know a lot of people during that era and would appreciate your post during this time. I absolutely love the ones that were displayed so far. Wish we could have an archive section online so we can access this at our leisure. Much Mahalo!

Hey Derek, at this point I am not taking requests and doing it randomly but i might start filling them after our all-state team is released on Sunday.

After that, I think we are going to make a page to put all of them on there.

Hi Jerry, I noticed that this year (1963), the Star Bulletin did not post the high school football all stars? There were particular name(s) I was hoping to find. Mahalo, if you can post it if it is available.

Is there a way that I can research the star bulletin version of the 1963 high school football allstars? Unless they did not publish an all star selections that year.

    Derek,
Sorry, but 1963 for the Star-Bulletin is not on newspapers.com for some reason. You could go to the public library and check their fiche reference book to see if anything weird happened. I might do that when I get time.

Who specifically are you looking for? I can probably dig up something on them.
