Punahou quarterback Larry Tuileta was so impressive, Gatorade honored him again as the Hawaii football player of the year.
The award is based on achievements on the field and in the classroom. On the field, Tuileta directed a potent Punahou offense as the Buffanblu won the state championship.
He finished the season with 2,647 yards, 28 touchdowns and just five picks. He completed 155 of 263 attempts (59 percent) and had a passer rating of 174.81. The best number: the Buffanblu went 11-0.
“I feel great for him. He’s very deserving and he’s been a great leader. I think he’s earned it on the field,” coach Kale Ane said. “Tui has done well in the classroom and on the field.”
The 6-foot-3, 205-pound two-sport standout — he will play volleyball and football at the University of Hawaii next year — began attending Punahou in seventh grade.
“He’s evolved as a player since his first couple of years. He played defense at the JV level and rotated at quarterback with two other guys,” Ane said. “He never complained. He worked his way up to starter as a sophomore. He earned it. It wasn’t given to him.”
Looks good at Punahou Baffanblu football team at 6-2 205 ibs. But serious, look for another college to play football. HHSAA Division I champions in football. Honestly speaking, he is too small and probably too slow for UH football team. Try looking into Portland State for a football team and then stay there to see if you like football.
