Maryknoll’s three-set win over ‘Iolani, 16-25, 25-21, 25-23, was a big win for the Spartans and Coach Andrew Ah Yee.
“The biggest plus is having Zion Bruce back. He added another big block to the front row. Together with Alex Parks, they both maintained the net,” Ah Yee said. “There are no surprises in our team because our boys worked hard this week executing and fine tuning our offense and defense.
Later, at Hemmeter Fieldhouse, Punahou’s girls left their mark with a sweep of Kamehameha, 25-15, 25-17.
“We were well aware of what they have, their big guns in Devin (Kahahawai) and Maui (Robins), so we were prepared for where they would be attacking. They did what they normally do, get up and crush. We knew they would get their kills, and our girls just had to shake it off,” Punahou Coach Tanya Fuamatu-Anderson said.
