Nako is new Kamehameha boys VB coach

Randy Nako is the new Kamehameha boys volleyball coach, Warriors athletic director Glennie Adams told Hawaii Prep World on Wednesday.

Nako has lots of experience as an assistant coach at many different levels. He was a volunteer assistant for the University of Hawaii men’s team and is currently an assistant with the Hawaii Hilo women’s team. He has also been on many staffs as an assistant at the club and high school level and at the international club level, Adams said.

Nako is a graduate of McKinley and Brigham Young-Hawaii.

“I’m excited about Randy bringing his technical experience to the program,” Adams said. “And he’s going to surround himself with good people (on his staff). I’m excited about this new chapter of Kamehameha volleyball.”

Nako takes over for Kainoa Downing, who spent five years as the Warriors’ head coach. Kamehameha went 11-3 last season and made it to the state quarterfinals.
