Pac-Five opened its 2014 season in record-breaking fashion on Saturday night as sophomore quarterback Kainoa Ferreira set an Oahu high school record for passing yards in a game, finishing with 515 and six touchdowns in a 54-37 win over King Kekaulike on Maui.

Ferreira, making his varsity debut, completed 34 of 64 passes to break the record held by former Wolfpack QB PJ Minaya by 4 yards. They are the only two Oahu players ever to top the 500-yard passing mark in a game.

Senior receiver Tsubasa Brennan fell 8 yards short of becoming the fourth player from Oahu to top 300 yards in a game, finishing with 292 yards on 19 catches and four touchdowns.

The Wolfpack trailed 10-0 in the first quarter when Ferreira threw his first scoring pass — a 4-yard strike to Jarrod Infante. Brennan followed with a 15-yard touchdown reception to give Pac-Five a 14-10 lead after the first quarter.

Brennan and Ferreira hooked up again for a 52-yard touchdown early in the second quarter before a huge 85-yard TD pass to Sean Kinel suddenly put the 500-yard mark in sight.

Sitting on 350 yards at the break, Ferreira came out for the second half and hooked up on scoring touchdowns of 29 and 55 yards with Brennan, who trails only Kailua’s David Kaihenui, Saint Louis’ Desmond Hanohano and Kalani’s Albert Sabog on the single-game receiving list.
