OIA changes to football schedule are here

The final version of the OIA football schedule is out. In photo, McKinley’s Noah-Rodnie Diaz battled for yards against Roosevelt in a game last year. Bruce Asato / Honolulu Star-Advertiser.

The Oahu Interscholastic Association football schedule final version is out.

As with any schedule, “final” version does not mean changes won’t be made in the future. All schedules are subject to change.

The new version has four Wednesday games (down from six in the previous OIA draft schedule) and 15 Thursday games (down from 16). The midweek games are being played this year due to an officials shortage. It frees up the available referees to officiate more games per week.

Also, the new version of the schedule includes nonleague games for all OIA teams on the first weekend Hawaii teams can play real games, Aug. 4 and 5.

The OIA D-I playoffs will start the weekend of Oct. 5-6 and finish up the weekend of Oct. 26-27.

The distribution of Wednesday and Thursday games for each team follows.
