LIVE BLOG: Kahuku 41, McKinley 7, Final

The third-ranked Kahuku Red Raiders are rolling under first-year coach Lee Leslie. After an impressive 33-19 win over a tough Kapolei squad in the opener, Kahuku rolled Waipahu 51-10 last week. The Red Raiders have won four in a row against the Tiges since McKinley beat the Red Raiders 14-13 in 2006. McKinley put up 28 points against Kahuku last season but was held to seven in its first game against Leilehua. The Tigers had to forfeit their season opener against Mililani.

Kickoff at Ticky Vasconcellos Stadium should be somewhere around 8 p.m. after the Kahuku JV team beat McKinley 41-0.

Kesi Ah-Hoy with a 30-yard return on the kickoff and a personal foul on the Tigers means Kahuku starts its first drive on the McKinley 35. After quarterback Tuli Wily-Matagi throws long in the end zone, Ah-Hoy is stopped for a 6-yard loss on third-and-1. Kahuku goes for it. Shane Pagaduan defends a fourth-down pass that falls incomplete and McKinley takes over on downs.


McKinley with a three-and-out as Keala Santiago delivers a big hit on third down for a tackle for loss. Kahuku roughs the punter though and it’s first-and-10 Tigers at the 47. Tigers punt but cover well. Kahuku first-and-10 on its 26. 23-yard run to Ah Hoy. Wily-Matagi complete to Salanoa-Alo Wily who hurdles a defender and is penalized. Ah-Hoy with a 41-yard TD run and it’s 7-0, 5:42, Q1.

Kahuku gets the ball back after a three-and-out. Wily-Matagi scrambles and Solomone Lopes-Liutolo off the edge with a big hit, forcing a fumble. Dyllon Enriquez on the recovery for McKinley. Kahuku gets it right back as McKinley fumbles on a run. Wily-Matagi overthrows another deep ball as Kahuku tries to move the ball through the air. Ah Hoy hauls in a 20-yard pass on a broken play. Kahuku with an extra guy on the field and has to call timeout. Alohi Gillman takes the option pitch 13 yards and Jrue Williams with a 12-yard reception down to the 10. Wily-Matagi goes play action and hits Likio Vea on a 10-yard touchdown pass. Kahuku 14, McKinley 0, 1:33, Q1.

Kahuku tries an onsides kick but is offsides. McKinley picks up a first down as quarterback Micah Kerisiano rushes for 13 yards on third-and-7. Roman Salanoa with a tackle for loss by Kahuku to start the second quarter. McKinley punts.

Kahuku marches down to the 9 where it is fourth-and-2. Hand off is to Ah Hoy and Enriquez absolutely blows the play up for a 4-yard loss and a turnover on downs. Impressive play by the 5-11, 180-pound junior.

Tigers get 5 yards on two runs but an illegal substitution makes it third-and-10. Kahuku stops the run and Gillman with a 45-yard punt return for a touchdown. McKinley’s Keith Lautez is injured on the field but is able to get up and walk off. Kahuku 20, McKinley 0, 4:55, Q2.

Kerisiano rolls right but is intercepted by John Ofahengaue-Farley. Ah Hoy with an 18-yard TD run on the next play. Kick is good. Kahuku 27, McKinley 0, 3:47, Q2.

Kaimi Kini returns it 41 yards but is stopped by the kicker, Gabriel Pinheiro-Alves, who may have saved a touchdown. Kahuku fans go crazy on the tackle. Santiago with another big hit on defense and McKinley is three-and-out. Kahuku ball at its own 5 with 1:14 left. Can they go 95 yards? They got two timeouts left and have to use one after Chance Maghanoy doesn’t get out of bounds on a quick 8-yard pass. Wily-Matagi completes a couple of passes to get near midfield but is slow on a couple of reads. Kahuku punts with 11 seconds left. We go to the half.

Kahuku comes back out on the field and tries to do halftime stretches in a giant circle around midfield but is told to get on their side.

QB change for McKinley as Keanu Pratt is back taking snaps. Pratt with a third-down pass deep that is incomplete. He takes a shot on the play and is down for a moment before getting up. Manaia Atuaia blocks the punt for Kahuku, which takes over at the McKinley 12. Ah Hoy with a 12-yard touchdown run for his third rushing TD of the game. Kahuku 34, McKinley 0, 10:27, Q3.

Enriquez is shaken up on McKinley’s first rush but eventually gets to his feet and hobbles off. Best pass of the night as Pratt finds Brandon Chan on a roll out for 11 yards. A personal foul for a late hit on Kahuku gives McKinley its best field position of the game at the Kahuku 34. Pratt completes three more passes as Kaimi Kini wins a jump ball in the air for a 20-yard touchdown reception. Kahuku 34, McKinley 7, 6:44, Q3.
