Kahuku’s impressive 28-0 victory over Waianae last Friday did not go unnoticed on the mainland.

After holding the previously undefeated Seariders to 32 total yards to record their 16th consecutive victory, the Red Raiders jumped seven spots to No. 18 in the latest USA Today Super 25 rankings released Monday.

Bishop Gorman took over the No. 1 spot in the rankings after thrashing then-No. 5 Cedar Hill (Tex.) 44-14 on Saturday. The Gaels will host Kahuku in Las Vegas on Sept. 17.

The Red Raiders did not crack the CBS MaxPreps Xcellent Top 25 released Monday but were listed as one of five bubble teams. Bishop Gorman was also ranked No. 1 in that poll.

Kahuku’s next two games are at home versus Campbell and at Radford before making the trip to the mainland to face the Gaels.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser football and volleyball rankings are due out later today.

I think Kahuku got as high as #15 in the past, didnt St. Louis crack the top 10 before?

These are end-of-year USA Today rankings going back to 1982.

    http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/sports/preps/football/year-by-year-rankings.htm

Don’t know about how high either team got during season(s).

I’m sure rabid fans will chime in.

Should be interesting in 3 weeks.

I doubt we will climb any higher considering the upcoming opponents these next 2 weeks.

You dont really move up unless people above loose.

I’m pulling for Kahuku in Vegas, but don’t yall think USA today pumping up this game alil much by having Kahuku at a high national ranking? This game is a money maker and it will look really good on paper when no.1 rank BG vs (let’s say) no.15 Kahuku. Don’t get me wrong i’m a big red raider fan and a oia graduate and supporter but the media has its ways to pump a game up to increase revenue, which in this case it’s a good thing.

  7. Alpha August 29, 2016 10:24 am

Oh….. would be nice if this post had a pic of Kahuku busting up on sombody lol….usually their the ones getting bust up on the pics here.

  8. rrforlifebaby August 29, 2016 10:37 am

imho, I don’t think they would rank Big Red just to pump up the hype for a game.

That’s more or less a true statement re moving up the poll, but you just have to win and impress the voters.

Honestly though, I’m glad my alma mater is getting national recognition, but when it comes to the national high school rankings, it’s really hard to judge any team outside of the top 10.

Just stay humble and focused Boiz and do your thing!

This is game is big and the best of the best will be playing against each other.I am proud of our Football team. The difference between our team is that we have Mana.Generations of it in our community and football players and coaches and staff.Win or lose we will still carry that Mana high.So proud to be from this community.#Gobigred#RedRaiderNation#RR4L#PrideofNorthshore#Mana#Kahukustrong.

Wow…. I hear crickets. When it was about OIA vs ILH… all kine trash talkin. But now, againt BG…. different tone. So, I’ll start it up! The USA ranking full of it… our local team from North Shore should be number 1 in that poll, and it will be proven on Sept 17! The game not going even be close… BG not going be able to stop the run! In fact, RR going leave cleat tracks all over BG’s chest and face. After the game, the nation going pay some respect to a little town in the middle of the Pacific after they kick BG rear ends. No fricken haole team going beat RR… screw BG! And BG… no worry… what happens in vegas… stays in vegas.

After watching the Bishop Gorman game this past weekend… All Kahuku gotta do is Clock management…They did it against Waianae and it wore down the defense… Anything is possible…Let show them smash mouth football and see who more physical….Good luck to both teams…

  13. ilh August 29, 2016 12:26 pm

Kahuku will have no chance against Bishop Gorman, 41-14, Bishop Gorman.

  14. anywaaaays!! August 29, 2016 12:37 pm

Dont fall for the trolls talking bad about BG or Kahuku.

It will be a great game because Kahuku eats up the clock to keep the high powered offenses off the field. BG seems to rely on that read-option to create a triple threat offense which most high school or college defenses cant contain, Tata was at Stanford when they beat Oregons high powered read-option offense I think Tata will know what to do on defense. Win or Lose Kahuku already wins by having the honor to play the #1 team in America and getting their name out there on the national stage.

    Hmmm… @ilh

Looks like you copied and pasted your prediction for St Louis win over Big Red from last year.

And we all know how that played out.

Watching the game looks like BG would fit really nicely in the ILH. They rely heavily on the run to set up their play-action passes.

Too bad for them they won’t be able to run. And they won’t be able to stop the run. I don’t know if we will win. But I know we will be WAY more competitive than any of their recent opponents. It will be a lot closer than all you Raider Haters think.

Go ask Cal Lee what he thinks. And remind him to go pick up his 2nd place trophy from last year.

    RRFL!

What you mean CLOSE? What you mean don’t know if we going win? Where’s your confidence? Don’t you think Raider going smash em up? BG is over rated and Raider is underrated. Raider should come out victorious and with a rude awakening for the rest of the nation. Too much Mana over hea… we no can lose… so no even try!

Kahuku, please do your HAKA before the
    BG game & Good Luck….

  20. ill August 29, 2016 10:44 pm

Weak teams coming up for Kahuku in the next two weeks, Campbell and Radford, After Bishop Gorman, back to weak teams untill the Play-offs, If Iolani had Kahuku’s schedule would be a cake walk too for Iolani. hopefully the O.I.A. agrees to have the following teams in this conference next year : KAHUKU, WAIANAE, KAPOLEI, MILILANI, FARRINGTON, LEILEHUA, CAMPBELL, SAINT LOUIS, PUNAHOU, KAMEHAMEHA. let’s now see how good Kahuku would do in this set up.

  21. Insideoutsidein August 29, 2016 11:45 pm

@ill, You’re right! They just got by La Jolla Country, an out of state team from Cali with 33 on their roster. Their top players playing both ways and their first game. Lol….Many complain about Kahuku’s weak schedule, but they end up State Champions.

  22. JHoodie August 30, 2016 5:46 am

I think it’s hilarious how ppl keep talking about the strength of Kahukus schedule. No one told teams like Radford or Iolani to leave the D2 division. Now they get wasted playing with the big boys and try to pull top teams down with them. Lol it’s coo, Kahuku will always have a target on their back. Been like that for ages. I just hope when they play Gorman, they get support from the entire state. They’re representing our School, their families and also Hawaii on Sept 17

Doesn’t everyone bleed some shade of red? How about proud that our students are taking Trig as seniors?

  26. Aku Bird August 30, 2016 11:02 am

Does anyone have facts on why Kahuku OC relieved????

  27. j August 30, 2016 12:31 pm

    @Education First,

That’s awesome! Is that the school’s requirement? …for graduation? Or are you pointing out like the senior class mean completes trig? Totally cool… I thought maybe after alg II folks just stop taking math. See… OIA can compete with da ILH too in academics!
