Harbaugh, Michigan camps coming to Hawaii

Jim Harbaugh and his Michigan football staff is coming to Hawaii for two camps in June.

The Hawaii swing of the 30-city Michigan Pacific Island Swarm Tour begins June 26 at the Saint Louis School football field.

Along with Harbaugh and his staff, University of Hawaii head coach Nick Rolovich and Saint Louis head coach Cal Lee and their staffs will also be instructing at the camp, which is for student-athletes who will be in high school this fall. The camp is also open to 2016 graduates and junior college players.

The June 26 camp will run from 8 a.m. to noon, with registration from 7-8 a.m. The cost is $65 for early registration and $75 for walkup.

A second camp, for players going into Grades 4 through 8, will be at Mililani Mauka Community Park on June 27, and Mililani head coach Rod York and his staff will be instructing along with Harbaugh and his Wolverines assistants.

The June 27 camp will run from 4-7 p.m., with registration from 2-4 p.m. The cost is $50 for early signups and $60 for walkup.

“Jim Harbaugh is extremely excited about coming here,” said Rich Miano, the former University of Hawaii football assistant coach who runs Gridiron Performance Academy, the facilitator of the camps, along with strength and quickness coach Chad Ikei. “He’s spreading the Michigan brand to Polynesia — Samoa, Australia and Hawaii.”

Another former Hawaii assistant, Tony Tuioti, was a catalyst in Harbaugh’s decision to come to Hawaii, according to Miano. Tuioti is the director of player personnel for the Wolverines.
