Baldwin closes on top, Damien finishes No. 9

The Baldwin Bears were virtually perfect in 2018.

The final Star-Advertiser Baseball Top 10 of the season has all 10 first-places votes tallied for the Bears, who captured their second state championship in the past three seasons.

MIL champion and nationally-ranked Baldwin (16-1) was followed by BIIF champion Waiakea (17-1), which lost to the Bears in the state final at Les Murakami Stadium on Friday.


‘Iolani (17-6-1), which reached the semifinal round of the Wally Yonamine Foundation/HHSAA Baseball State Championships, finished third in the rankings, followed by ILH champion Mid-Pacific (15-5) and OIA runner-up Kailua (14-5).

OIA champ Mililani (14-5), Campbell (15-4), Punahou (14-8), Damien (15-7) and Kalani (13-5) round out the Top 10. Division II state champion Damien is in the poll for the first time this season.
