Viela hired as new KS-Maui athletic director

Baldwin baseball head coach Jon Viela is the new Kamehameha-Maui athletic director, a school spokesperson confirmed Wednesday.

The hire was first reported by the Maui News.

Viela will take over on June 1 after the school sports season concludes. Blane Gaison was the school’s previous athletic director, but left the post to become the Interscholastic League of Honolulu executive director. Leo Delatori served as acting athletic director in the interim.

The school is in the process of hiring a new football coach to replace the outgoing Cody Nakamura, who took over for Kevin O’Brien starting with the 2012 season.

Viela is a former baseball player for Baldwin and the University of Hawaii.

Viela will be stepping down as the baseball coach at Baldwin, where he was also an assistant athletic director under Kahai Shishido.
