HAWAII GROWN: TTU’s Fehoko to transfer

Former Honolulu Star-Advertiser All-State defensive lineman Breiden Fehoko has decided he will transfer from Texas Tech after spending two seasons with the Red Raiders. The Farrington alum started all 25 games he was with TTU and compiled 38 tackles with 7 1/2 tackles for loss. The 6-foot-3, 295-pounder also had two sacks and made one interception. Washington State freshman Chanelle Molina will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL suffered in last Friday’s 68-49 loss to No. 18 Arizona State in Tempe, Ariz. In addition to a second Pac-12 Conference freshman of the week honor in as many weeks, former Konawaena Wildcat Chanelle Molina was named the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) freshman of the week today. Molina was already making headlines with a huge 33-point, five-rebound, seven-assist performance in Washington State’s 82-73 upset of then-No. 9 UCLA on Friday. Against USC on Sunday, the three-time Star-Advertiser all-state player of the year scored 16 points to lead the Cougars in a 74-57 win. […]

As the sixth Hawaii player to qualify for this week’s Sony Open in Hawaii, Tadd Fujikawa was understandably gratified to earn a return to Waialae Country Club. The accolades are building higher for former Konawaena standout Chanelle Molina. The Washington State guard was selected as the Pac-12 freshman of the week today. The league made the announcement on its site and Twitter account. The three-time Honolulu Star-Advertiser all-state player of the year averaged 14 points and three rebounds in three games with 11 assists and four steals. A total of five players with Hawaii ties earned All-America honors from the AVCA today. Along with Hawaii outside hitter Nikki Taylor, a Kaiser graduate, Utah junior Adora Anae was named to the AVCA All-America second team. Anae, a Kahuku alumna, is just the second Utah volleyball player to earn second-team All-America honors ever. Stanford offensive line Nate Herbig, who graduated from Saint Louis seven months ago, was named to the ESPN.com true freshman All-America team on Monday. In the write-up, ESPN’s Tom Luginbill writes, “A tough, physical player in a scheme that freshman often struggle to be tough enough to succeed, Herbig found a way to make it work at left guard.” Herbig started the last five games of the season for the Cardinal, who went 5-0.
