My niece Jovi is a beast! She has been tearing it up on the club scene since she was 12 often playing with high school varsity girls around Oahu. Last summer she played on Coach Bobbi Awa’s 17u Lady Stingrays as a 14 year old 8th grader in Oregon and Chicago.

But for some odd reason, she was put on the 15u team for Proformance Hawaii. It was a waste of her time. It’s unfortunate that she was subjected to play with the young ones (nothing against the young ones), but she was clearly better than many of the girls on the 17u teams (2 teams). I may be biased, but many local coaches told us the same.

The funniest thing was after Jovi and her teammates won the 15u division they were in, the Proformance coaches were blasting stuff all over the social media saying how they won the 15u division with a team of 13 year olds and younger? Um, Jovi was 14 when she played in that tourney.

Coaches, if you are going to coach kids, please make the personal connection and at least learn their ages, haha.

Anyway, I wish the best to Jovi and Lily, both are beasts! Hopefully 3-4 state titles for Iolani!!!
