KONAWAENA WILDCATS!!

There is a lot of reasons why there is no shot clock. I am a proponent for installing a shot clock. It will make the game quicker. The kids will transition to college and be more prepared. A game is 32 minutes so each team will have similar amount of possessions and we can really see who is the best. Versus, who starts out faster and can take the air out of the ball.

Some of the reasons I have heard is obviously money. Then there is the issue of finding someone competent to run it. Many school struggle to find someone to run the clock and do the book.

While you can have a shot clock near the scorer’s table or on the floor with a long extension cord, the proper way is to install 2 shot clocks above the basket like they did at Moanalua.

That is a lot of money. And I don’t believe adding $1 will cut it.

Yes, some players are getting D1 and D2 offers. But look at what schools are offering. It’s not exactly the cream of the crop universities. They are the lower academic, or tier 3 universities. I do not see USC or UCLA.

I am not saying that the Hawaii girls are at that level. But playing with more established programs, ones who are in Nike’s EYBL League definitely helps.

And, going to the mainland and playing in better leagues will surely help a kid improve their game and competitive spirit.

Do you actually think that playing yearly against Hawaii kids and against legit mainland kids are the same? The game is totally different. It’s faster. It’s way more physical.

Nothin wrong with getting a full ride, but look at the schools Coach Chico lists. Those are like last choices options.

If you asked every D1 or D2 candidate in Hawaii to list the top 25 schools they wish they could attend, I am pretty confident that none of the schools the Hawaii kids are ending up at would make their list.

I am surprised there was instant replay of the end of the game of the girls championship game. We have the technology for that but no shot clock, when almost every HS & older league in the world has it. Frustrating!

And the HHSAA is just fine with the state of sports as is. And that’s Da Troot!

I have heard the reason is money. Just charge another dollar at the games for an adult. The games would be so much more exciting. Hawaii needs to evolve with the rest of planet. What are we waiting for?

Like your comments. Hawai b-ball is behind and
Club teams are on the rise. Most kids playing in their districts have limited options to advance their skills with only their HS team or club doing the same drills and tournaments in Hawaii. If the district HS or clubs were up to date with the last skill drills and changing up the training they would be better off. Most old time coaches who are doing the same thing for years think they have seen it all and are being passed by the younger generation of coaches coming onto the scene.

Let’s be honest; coaches make mistakes just like players. Coaches have to be more open to change and realize that the stuff they did for 15 or 20 years; won’t always be what’s best. Hawaii basketball is stuck in a time warp; which is why club teams are on the rise. High schools are suffering from the same tired formulas and Athletic directors/coaches.
