I have heard about coach Liz’s favoritism and unfit coaching styles, first at Mid-Pacfic and now at Punahou. Making girls not want to play should be a huge wake up call for Punahou. Actually, it should have been a wake up call when she was fired from Mid-Pacific, coaches don’t get fired just because.

As for the All-star selections it has become apparent to me that the stat book has become a deciding factor of these selections. Points may win games but the things that don’t show up in the stat book shouldn’t be over looked such as defense. The game of basketball is much more than launching three-pointers. I would take a defensive all-star that gets their offensive moments once in awhile, over a player that puts up 20 points a game with no defense. Offense isn’t possible without defense and players that display both sides of the court are the real MVPs.

Tyra is well deserving of the ILH Player of the Year. She was both outstanding on offense and defense. Tyra was nearly unstoppable on offense. She was SOLID on defense were she blocked shots and/or force players to change their shots. Not sure about stats, but it appeared that the games I watched she had double doubles (points and rebounds). I also noticed that she played A LOT of minutes (if not in foul trouble) and never appeared tired.

Coach Chico is also well deserving of the ILH Coach of the Year. Chico had a young, talented and deep bench. He always got his players ready to play and put them in the best position to win. I heard many people call him a loud complainer, especially towards the referees. I believe its part of the game. He is vocal for his team and always trying to get the benefit of the next referee’s call. Chico hasn’t coached all these years without learning a thing or two.

CONGRATS to Tyra and Coach Chico. Well deserved.

Tyra, you’ve done great things throughout your high school career. I’ve watched you display tremendous skill and good sportsmanship over the years and you are very deserving of this. So proud of you!

Now if you bring back Coach Taylor, they have a decent chance of beating Kona. I am not saying they would win, but it would be competitive. He almost beat Kona the year Kona was stacked with Galdeira and Awa and Punahou didn’t have much talent that year.

I think Tyra is outstanding. But I think she could have been much better. I rarely if ever seen her coaches helping her by setting some cross screens, running her on a down screen and into a high/low game. They never tried to get her open. She had to do everything by herself. But then again, I don’t think Coach Kam has that is her repertoire. She would struggle coaching in KAC or KBA.

She will be great college player good luck to her and you.

Please Excuse my Grammer. Sorry about that. Yes I do get hostile when people talk about my family not knowing them personally. Going back to the stats now your saying it should be Kamaile? Your first comment says mk players mk coach the real MVP. I’m confused. Im not saying Tyra deserved this anymore then any other girl that played this season but she was awarded it and for you to comment on here that she doesn’t deserve this because of her size or the size of her competition is crazy but hey that’s your opinion. Good luck to all you all-star coaches next season. Max hope you become a coach so you can get your vote in next season

I believe you were trying to say YOU’RE not YOUR was not talking out of anyplace other than mouth and my mouth says to answer your obvious question. Per scoring live KAMAILE KANDIAH has better stats and that is only in the ILH. Your other question will take extensive research of which I do not have time but does not make the statement false. I do agree 12-3 is a great season but then again only four teams played imagine if Coach V or Coach Taylor were coaching, total different outcome. Well deserved questionable well earned not by all.

We can only control our own actions, not what others say or do. The Kahuku football program and the North Shore community experience this type of negativity on the regular; we like to think of ourselves as the enemy of the state ; ) What do we do about it? We let the haters inspire us! Please don’t let ANYONE take away the hard work Tyra has put in to get where she is today. She deserves every bit of this recognition. Congratulations to her. Cheeeehoooo!!

Name me a player in any league at any division that the team can’t win without. Your talking out of your a**. Now show me a player in the ilh that has better stats then Tyra this season. Let’s not forget all these players including the MVP were voted by league coaches. As for Punahou season as a whole. 12-3 in league play with all those losses within single digit points to the state title runner up. Anyone with an unbiased opinion would say that’s a pretty dam good season. All these all star coaches and critics on here am muses me. Good job to all the girls and Chico for being selected. Well earned and deserved all around.
