Kalina did win Gatorade Player of the year for girls this year. I believe it came out last week.
She’s a terrific player & I wish her the best of luck at San Jose State. She’s going to kill it up there!
Congrats to her on all of her well deserved accolades.

I agree. If you’re the M.V.P., I feel like that is a distinction on its own and you should not need to also be included in the first team as well. I will call juice if Obrey is not the overall P.O.Y. as well as the Gatorade P.O.Y. With the season and tournament she had, she should covet both awards.

The ILH always seems to have the upper hand over the OIA and here’s another example. OIA East & West players of the year (MVP) are included in the first team all star selections but ILH’s top player (MVP) Is left off the first team so they can slip in another player then they also place 6 players on the 2nd team. I know these girls work hard & deserve the recognition but let’s keep it even across the board please. So voters let’s share the love with the OIA….. Lol

Congrats to Kalina! No one deserved the MVP more than her this year. And too bad there is no “runner up” coach of the year, could’ve gone to Kamehameha’s coach, Pua Straight. Congrats to all other players and their recognitions.

Nothing against the Kam coach. But why would you pick her over the Iolani coach? Iolani beat Kam three times to one. Iolani won both the ILH and State title.

Iolani won using 1 senior and surrounded her with a bunch of freshman and sophomores.

Iolani has the youngest team in the ILH.

Now again, what did the Kam coach do that the Iolani coach didn’t do that should put her over the top?

The coaches and media got it right.
